A highly placed source familiar with the development disclosed that the decision followed a meeting between Governor Yusuf and Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja on Friday.
According to the source, the governor requested additional time to conclude consultations with some state legislators and key political stakeholders who are yet to fully align with the proposed defection.

The development comes days after reports by an online newspaper suggested that Yusuf’s defection was imminent, fueling intense political speculation across Kano State, a major hub of northern Nigerian politics.
Observers say the postponement underscores the sensitivity of the move and its potential impact on the political balance in Kano, particularly given Governor Yusuf’s strong ties to the NNPP and its national leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Despite the delay, sources insist the defection plan remains on course, with fresh engagements expected ahead of the new date.
