- The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the release of NDLEA State Director, Mr. Daniel Onyishi, who was abducted on June 12 along Oby Okoli Road in Awka.
- His safe return followed a coordinated effort involving the police and NDLEA operatives led by Zone 12 Commander, Mrs. Florence Ezeonye.
- Onyishi is currently receiving medical attention, while the Police High Command has been briefed and a directive issued to bring the abductors to justice.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release of Mr. Daniel Onyishi, the State Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who was abducted on June 12 during the Democracy Day public holiday.
Onyishi was reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of the day along Oby Okoli Road near Winners Chapel in Awka.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the release was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.

Ikenga explained that police operatives, working in synergy with other security agencies, especially NDLEA officials led by Zone 12 Commander Mrs. Florence Ezeonye, coordinated the efforts that led to Onyishi’s safe return.
Part of the statement read:
“The Anambra State Police Command today 22nd June 2025 confirmed the release of the abducted NDLEA Anambra State Director, Mr. Daniel Onyishi.
“It would be recalled that the victim was abducted in the early hours of 12th June 2025 along Winner Road, Awka. He is currently in safe custody and receiving medical attention.”
The police further stated that CP Orutugu has briefed the Police High Command and activated the Inspector-General’s directive to ensure those behind the abduction are identified and prosecuted.
