Actors Guild of Nigeria Launches Appeal For Ailing Actors

Piqued by the current spate of life threatening ailments and sudden deaths which has befallen some practitioners and members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the President, Ejezie Emeka Rollas has launched an internal appeal fund to help support the families of the deceased and provide quick medical interventions for those who are bedridden for various ailments.

Over time, lots of deaths has been recorded within the industry, and the President is highly saddened by this and has taken proactive steps in facing this issue.

In his usual style of carrying members of the Guild along in all he does, the President has been making a passionate appeal to members and Nollywood at large, to lend support to their colleagues through the Trust Fund which is chaired by a thorough veteran, Aunty Joke Silva, as the Guild has become overwhelmed with the urgent need to provide assistance to sick members.

The Guild is also working towards undertaking in the funeral activities of the deceased actors, and provide for the upkeep of the immediate families.

It is with great sadness to note that three corpses of AGN members are currently in the morgue awaiting final burial rites, they are: Jim Lawson Maduike, Dan Nkoloagu, Ernest Asuzu (who passed on recently), while some members are equally down with life-threatening ailments.

The President sees this as a burden all actors have to bear, and to be our brother’s keeper in times of need.

The likes of Tom Njemanze, Prince Emeka Ani, Bruno Iwuoha, Evelyn Osugo, Ken Odunukwe, Tony Goodman and many others are critically ill, with need for urgent medical interventions, and needs the support from all and sundry.

In his words, “the survival of AGN depends on the collective support of individual members.”

It is worthy of mention that some members have already started to contribute and about ₦2.7 million naira has been generated within 24hrs.

Stars like Genevieve Nnaji, Richard Mofe Damijo, Alex Ekubo, Ruth Kadri, Mike Ezuruonye, Oma Nnadi, Kenneth Okolie, Omowunmi Dada, Eddy Oboh, Obi Okoli, Victoria Inyama, Clarion Chukwura, Georgina Ibe, Walter Anga, Femi Branch, Kemi Adekomi, Kunle Remi, Ada Ameh, Monalisa Chinda Coker, Pascaline Alex, Pam Olive, Ebele Okaro, Belinda Effah, Ayo Adesanya, Ifeoma Okeke, Jnr pope, etc have all made substantial contributions to the trust fund aimed at providing urgent medical intervention to sick members and to assist the deceased families.

The ever working President, Mr Emeka Rollas, who works tirelessly behind the scene is also presently in talks with a private firm to organize a health awareness campaign nationwide on how to prevent sudden death.

The Guild is appealing to all members to take advantage of the existing HMO scheme, which is highly discounted for members to receive proper and timely medications in over 600 hospitals across the country.

Since assumption of office as President of the guild, Mr Rollas has embarked on several laudable projects and is set to do more over time, his passion for the Guild cannot be overlooked and is working tirelessly to bring unity, equity, progress, support and many more to the Guild.

Never have actors gathered in such solidarity for their own in the last decade, but Actors Guild of Nigeria has regained confidence of Actors under Mr Emeka Rollas who has continued to make good his promises to change the narrative.

Mr Rollas passionately believes that all and sundry should wake up to our responsibilities towards, and support the guild at all times.
