Adamawa ADC Factions Clash Over State Leadership

The leadership crisis in the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified, as key stakeholders clash over control of the party.

Comrade Umar Yakubu condemned the faction led by Shehu Yohanna for rejecting a four-man reconciliation committee intended to resolve internal disputes.

The rift escalated in July following the influx of high-profile politicians into the ADC. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s resignation from the PDP and subsequent joining of the ADC, followed by Senator Aishatu Ahmed (Binani) and former Governor Senator Jibrilla Bindow, heightened competition for influence within the party.

Although Shehu Yohanna has been widely accepted as state chairman, Mustapha Arabi disputes his authority, insisting he is the legitimate leader. Yakubu, representing Concerned ADC Stakeholders, accused Yohanna’s faction of desperation and deliberately undermining unity. He said the rejection of the committee led by retired Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka “is an attempt to cover up its waning legitimacy.”

“To label this committee as fraudulent is defamatory and exposes the Shehu Yohanna faction’s fear of accountability and genuine reform,” Yakubu added, urging the national ADC leadership to validate the committee and reconstitute state leadership to reflect the will of all members.

The Yohanna faction has dismissed the reconciliation committee, claiming it was never authorised by the recognised ADC leadership.

The group asserted that the Adamawa chapter remains united and warned against attempts to drag the party into controversies, stating that the individuals circulating the committee are “not card-carrying members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State.”
