The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is applying selective justice in the legal proceedings involving former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said it has been closely monitoring developments surrounding the cases.

While affirming that no individual is above the law, the ADC expressed concern over what it described as the pattern, speed and sequence of enforcement actions taken against the two politicians.

According to the party, the movement of El-Rufai and Malami between different law enforcement agencies in rapid succession, while investigations are reportedly ongoing, has raised public concern about fairness and consistency.

The ADC argued that in a constitutional democracy, custody should follow clearly defined and credible charges rather than create the appearance of pre-trial punishment.

The party maintained that if there is evidence against either man, such evidence should be presented transparently before a competent court of law to allow due process to take its course.

Referencing another high-profile case involving allegations of passport forgery and international conspiracy, the ADC noted that the defendants in that matter pleaded not guilty, were granted bail and are currently undergoing trial.

It stressed that the constitutional presumption of innocence must apply equally to all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

Reaffirming its stance, the ADC said it would continue to stand by its members throughout the legal process, insisting that they must not be intimidated or denied their constitutional protections.

The party added that justice must be transparent, even-handed and free from political calculation to maintain public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
