Vows to resist intimidation and defend Nigeria’s democracy
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused allies of President Bola Tinubu of orchestrating a covert plot to destabilise its leadership and weaken the opposition coalition.
The party raised alarm over a secret meeting allegedly convened by senior federal officials with former state chairmen and key ADC executives in the North-East and North-West.
In a statement on Monday, the ADC’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi, said the meeting had nothing to do with national security or peacebuilding, but was designed to intimidate and coerce opposition figures into submission.

“The July 1 Coalition Declaration and the July 2 unveiling of the ADC clearly unsettled the ruling party,” Abdullahi said. “The Tinubu administration, having lost public trust, is resorting to old tactics to destabilise the opposition instead of addressing national challenges.”

He described the alleged moves as sabotage and warned that such tactics could push Nigeria towards a one-party state.
The party urged President Tinubu to restrain his appointees and demonstrate his commitment to democratic principles.
“We will use all lawful means to resist any attempt to undermine Nigeria’s democracy,” the statement read.
