• Adedamola secures the PDP governorship ticket with 919 votes
• Adeleke’s withdrawal leaves him as the sole eligible contender
• INEC, PDP officials and security agencies monitored the primary in Osogbo
Adebayo Adedamola has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket for the 2026 Osun State election after securing an overwhelming victory at the party’s primary held in Osogbo on Tuesday.
Adedamola polled 919 of the 957 valid votes, emerging as the clear winner following the withdrawal of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the race.

The chairman of the primary committee, Humphrey Abba, announced the results and disclosed that 20 votes were voided.
He clarified that although both Adeleke and Adedamola appeared on the ballot, delegates were warned that votes cast for Adeleke would not be counted due to his resignation from the party.
The primary commenced shortly after accreditation closed at 11:35 a.m. Committee secretary, Sunday Solarin, reminded delegates that Adeleke’s exit left Adedamola as the only eligible aspirant. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representatives of the PDP national headquarters, and operatives of the police, DSS and NSCDC observed the exercise.
Delegates began arriving as early as 11:07 a.m. to check in before voting in batches.
Adeleke’s resignation letter—dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to his ward chairman in Ede North—cited the leadership crisis within the PDP as his reason for leaving.

The development was later confirmed by the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, during a radio programme.
Adedamola will now represent the PDP in the governorship election as the party begins its preparations for the 2026 contest.
