Adeleke under fire for leaving state “without notice”
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United States to attend the white wedding of his nephew and global music sensation, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, amid mounting political backlash over his unexplained absence from state duties.
Davido had earlier announced on The Breakfast Club show in April 2025 that the much-anticipated white wedding would hold in Miami, Florida, this August.
The couple had legally wedded in 2023 after the tragic loss of their son, and are now set to formalise their union with a high-profile celebration.

The governor’s international trip has, however, attracted criticism from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which accused him of abandoning his constitutional duties without formally informing the state or handing over power to his deputy.
In a statement released on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Mr. Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that Adeleke had been missing from the state for weeks without transparency, describing the situation as “abnormal” and calling for accountability.
“The question being asked in hushed tones in some public places, inside commercial buses and by motorcycle riders and their passengers in the state, is where could be the whereabouts of their governor for this long.”
“Did the governor duly transmit power to his deputy who is constitutionally covered to temporarily step into the shoes of his principal in his absence?”the statement read.
In response, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Olawale Rasheed, issued a statement confirming Adeleke’s travel, noting that the governor flew out a few days ago aboard the family’s private jet for the high-profile wedding ceremony.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” the statement read.

Rasheed further defended the governor’s record, stating that Adeleke had not taken any official vacation since assuming office in November 2022, and that this trip would be short and closely monitored.
He clarified that the governor remains in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is supervising state activities during the period.
