The former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke has named the favorite country to win the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

The 51-year-old has come clean about his choice when he said the current title-holders, Algeria appeared the most favored team to win the trophy again.

Riyad Mahrez’s side had beat Nigeria 2-1 in the semi-final before defeating Senegal in 1-0 win over Senegal in the last edition of the 2019 AFCON.

Baghdad Bounedjah helped the Desert Warriors to win their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 29 years with a goal in the second minute of the game against Cameroon at Cairo International Stadium.

Even so, the former Barcelona star had acknowledged that it would not be an easy task to predict who will win.

Amunike held that the continental standard of football has taken a better shape since the last AFCON hosted by Egypt.

The 1994 AFCON winner with Nigeria also mentioned Senegal, Nigeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt behind Algeria.

Amuneke told CAFOnline: “Algeria is the reigning champions, and they are the favourites. Senegal is a very strong team. So are the hosts Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco and Tunisia.”

“It will be very difficult to predict who will win the title.”

He added: “There are big changes in African football, players with a global dimension, it is promising.”

“In Europe today, African footballers play the leading roles in their clubs and evolve in the top clubs in the world.”
