AFCON: Iwobi Assures Fans of Victory in Bissau

AFCON: Iwobi Assures Fans of Victory in Bissau | Daily Report Nigeria

Nigerian midfielder, Alex Iwobi has assured that the Super Eagles will secure an away victory over Guinea-Bissau.

Iwobi’s comments follows the shock home defeat the Wild Dogs meted on the Eagles in the first leg of a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, in Abuja.

Mama Balde’s 29th-minute goal condemned the Super Eagles to a 0-1 defeat at home to their less fancied opponents.

The win took the Wild Dogs to the top of Group A, leaving the Super Eagles demoted to second spot.

Everton star, Iwobi, is however optimistic that the players will give a good account of themselves to secure a win the return leg.

“Next game, we’re going to do our best to get the result and make the country proud,” Iwobi said

“Like what the coach said, we created many chances and had opportunities to score in the first leg, but it’s one of those games that we did not score.

“Am sure if we play them again luck could be on our side.

“First and foremost, as players and staff, we know we’ve got to react to this result, we are going to look at the game and see what we need to do to improve.

“We want the fans to stick by us and support us because we give 100% not just for ourselves but also for our nation.

“We know we’re privileged to wear the shirt, there are a lot of people who want to be in this position.”

Nigeria with six points will be aiming for a win to reclaim the lead in Group A when they travel to Bissau in the return fixture on Monday, March 27.
