Ballon d’Or 2024 nominee, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen combined to put up a strong show as the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers on Saturday.
The encounter, which took place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, took off with a great intent from the Eagles to win the game from the start.
Bayern Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface had several decent chances to give the Super Eagles the lead in the first half but failed to concert.
Lookman then opened the scoring in the second minute of added time in the first half to hand Nigeria the lead.

Victor Osimhen made it 2-0 just six minutes after coming on for Boniface on the 78th minute.
Lookman then scored his second of the day with a header from a Moses Simon cross on the 83rd minute to render the Super Eagles a decent start to the AFCON Qualifiers.
Despite a late push, search for a consolation goal from the Beninoise side proved futile with Stanley Nwabali putting yet again another display to cement his place as Nigerian number one.
The Super Eagles will next travel to Kigali to face Rwanda on Tuesday in round two of the ongoing AFCON Qualifiers.
