Widely regarded as Africa’s most prestigious film and television awards, the AMVCA remains MultiChoice’s flagship initiative aimed at recognising and rewarding outstanding African storytelling across cinema, television, and digital platforms.

This year’s edition continues to reflect the rapid growth and global relevance of Africa’s creative industry, while also strengthening its commitment to Pan-African representation and cultural preservation.

New Indigenous Language Categories

One of the major highlights of the 12th AMVCA is the expansion of its Indigenous Language awards. For the first time, two new categories have been introduced:

  • Best Indigenous Language – North Africa
  • Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa

These additions are designed to ensure broader regional inclusion and give more African languages a prominent place on the continental stage.

Speaking on the development, an Africa Magic spokesperson said:

“The AMVCA continues to evolve with Africa’s creative landscape. Expanding the Indigenous Language categories is part of our commitment to authentic storytelling and fair representation across all regions of the continent.”

Award Categories and Eligibility

The AMVCA 2026 will feature a total of 32 award categories, made up of:

  • 18 jury-decided categories
  • 11 audience-voted categories
  • Two Lifetime Achievement Awards
  • One Trailblazer Award

To be eligible, submitted works must have been broadcast or publicly screened between January 1 and December 31, 2025. Feature films must have been shown in cinemas, on television, or on approved streaming platforms.

All entries must be submitted online via the official AMVCA portal, with full preview copies uploaded exactly as screened or broadcast. Full guidelines and submission requirements are available on the official AMVCA website.

The 12th AMVCA is headlined by Don Julio as Lead Sponsor, further elevating the awards’ premium positioning and cultural influence.

Renowned for its glamorous red carpet, fashion statements, and celebration of African creativity, the AMVCA 2026 awards ceremony will take place in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 2026, with additional details to be announced in the coming months.
