Petitioners claim Kyari’s leadership was plagued by corruption and secrecy.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has assured Nigerians that former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) boss Mele Kyari will be investigated amid allegations of corruption and financial irregularities.
This assurance was delivered by Winifred Adekunle, a Deputy Director at the Federal Ministry of Justice, while addressing protesting lawyers.
The protesters, members of the Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, submitted a detailed petition against Kyari, alleging that his leadership of NNPCL was “a racket run in favour of friends and associates.”
They criticised the Federal Government for failing to investigate him thoroughly after his removal.

The petitioners expressed outrage over alleged financial irregularities in refinery rehabilitation projects, claiming that funds expended did not reflect tangible results.
Adekunle stated, “Your petition will receive immediate attention. There will be a response, and the issues raised will be addressed appropriately. Rest assured, the Attorney General and the Solicitor General are people you can count on. Your demands will not be ignored.” The protesters demanded a fact-finding probe to quantify financial losses and recommend concrete recovery steps.
