Airtel Network Mast Gutted By Fire In Ilorin

An Airtel network mast in the Osin-Okete area of Osin, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, was on Monday engulfed by fire.

The incident occurred around 1:27 p.m., according to a statement released by the spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, in Ilorin.

He explained that fire service personnel were immediately mobilized to the scene. “Fire service crew turned out at 13:27hrs and began emergency operations immediately,” the statement noted.

On arrival, firefighters discovered the mast already in flames. “A generator at the site was affected; however, the swift and coordinated actions of the fire crew significantly limited further damage to the mast and nearby equipment,” the statement added.

The operation was brought under control by 2:04 p.m. while the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, praised the efficiency of the crew and called for strict adherence to safety practices. He advised facility managers and residents to ensure proper maintenance of electrical and fuel systems while urging the public to “report emergencies immediately to minimise risk and damage.”
