The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Aisha Achimugu, the managing director and CEO of Felak Concept Group, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Achimugu was arrested around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, shortly after her arrival in Nigeria from London.

Her lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, confirmed the arrest in a statement shared with TheCable. Ojukwu also revealed that his client had begun a hunger strike in protest of her detention.

“She arrived voluntarily and was arrested by the EFCC. She has immediately gone on hunger strike,” Ojukwu stated. “Like Nelson Mandela of South Africa and Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar, she is a prisoner of conscience. This phase will surely pass. Nigeria’s rule of law is at the precipice.”

The arrest is related to an ongoing EFCC investigation into allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Earlier, Ojukwu had informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that Achimugu had planned to honor the EFCC’s invitation on Tuesday, as indicated in court documents.

This follows a directive from Justice Inyang Ekwo, who had ordered Achimugu to report to the EFCC on April 29, 2025. The court also instructed her to return on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to continue the legal proceedings in the case.
