The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced that the Ajaokuta-Gwagwalada section of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline is scheduled to start operations by July 2026.
The 614-km pipeline will link northern industrial zones to Nigeria’s gas fields and help address national energy deficits.

NNPCL’s Executive Vice President for Gas, Power & New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, said the AKK pipeline will support manufacturing growth, power generation, Auto-CNG, Mini-LNG expansion, and create jobs across the value chain.
The company highlighted Gwagwalada as a strategic hub for logistics, commercial activities, and energy demand.
Portland Gas Limited is partnering to develop modular Mini-LNG and L-CNG stations, aiming to fuel vehicles, power industries, and strengthen energy resilience.
The initiative is intended to reduce capital risks, attract investment, and provide scalable returns as demand grows.
