APC chieftain, Godswill Akpabio, through his wife, publicly endorsed PDP Governor Umo Eno’s second-term bid during a town hall in Ikot Ekpene.

Governor Eno pledged to incorporate constituency needs into the 2026 budget and distributed N260 million in grants to over 600 beneficiaries.
Senate President and APC stalwart, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has thrown his support behind the second-term ambition of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno of the PDP, in a move that stirred wide political interest.
The endorsement was conveyed by Akpabio’s wife, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, during a Town Square meeting held at the Ikot Ekpene Sports Stadium on Thursday.
The event was attended by political stakeholders, constituents, and government officials.
Akpabio commended the governor’s impactful projects and financial empowerment efforts. “Let me welcome you to Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency for the Town Square meeting and to appreciate you for the several life-touching projects that you have executed for this constituency,” he stated. “I want to restate my commitment to supporting the Governor beyond 2027 irrespective of party affiliation.”
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Patrick Umoh of the APC, representing Ikot Ekpene-Obot Akara-Essien Udim Federal Constituency, moved a motion for Eno’s re-election, which received unanimous approval from attendees.
Governor Eno, in his address, announced a disbursement of N260 million in grants to 664 beneficiaries, including N105 million to 210 farmers, N125 million to 255 traders, and N5 million each to six SMEs. Equipment and vehicle support were also given to 193 individuals.
He also acknowledged the submission of a “Needs Document” by the constituency and assured the people that their priorities would be reflected in the upcoming 2026 budget.

“This Needs Document is part of what the law requires before preparing a budget. We will compile it and use it accordingly… so the 2026 budget will be the people’s budget,” Eno affirmed.
Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, Political Leader of the Federal Constituency, lauded the governor for over 42 completed projects within 20 months. Local Government Chairmen, led by Hon. Nkom Nkom, echoed support for Eno’s 2027 ambition, praising his pragmatic and inclusive governance approach.
