Akwa Ibom Shuts Down School as Cultists Issue Principal 24hrs to Recall Suspended Members | Daily Report Nigeria
The Uyo High School in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital has been shut temporarily following an ultimatum by suspected cultist to attack the school principal.

The faceless group reportedly issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the principal of the school, Mr. Michael Iwok to recall their suspended members back to school.

Some fetish objects such as fresh pepper, palm oil droplets, peeled cooked egg, palm front, a piece of red cloth, tied rope and ten naira notes were on Thursday dropped at the entrance of the principal’s office as a sign of warning.

Similar items and fetish inscriptions were also dropped at the entrance to Senior Secondary 3 classes by the same group.

The state government has waded in by shutting down the school in a bid to avoid any form of the onslaught.

Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon, Chairman Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), announced the immediate closure of the school on Thursday.

According to sources, trouble started when some students suspected to be cultists were recently suspended by the school authority led by Mr Iwok.

Some senior secondary 2 students are also suspected to be part of the plot, as they are angry they didn’t meet requirements to be promoted to SS3.

When contacted by Nation, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon declared the closure of the school over threats by suspected cultists has nothing to do with the police.

”Government close down school how that one come concerns me,” he said in pidgin English.

The spotting of the fetish items has left residents, teachers and students in fear.
