American transgender women now miss out on women’s events at both the Olympics and Paralympics after the USOPC unveiled its revised Athlete Safety Policy on July 21, 2025.

The freshly added “Additional Requirements” clause enforces Executive Order 14201 – former President Trump’s “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” and upholds the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act.

In a note to Team USA, USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland and President Gene Sykes stated:
“As a federally chartered organization, we have an obligation to comply with federal expectations.”
They told every National Governing Body to overhaul its rules immediately to keep women’s competition fair.
The news comes after Trump threatened to strip federal funding from schools that allow transgender girls on girls’ teams.
His directive requires maintaining rigidly single-sex divisions and locker rooms under Title IX.
The NCAA wasn’t late in following suit and adoption by prohibiting the women’s events to athletes assigned female at birth.
In view of the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, the stakeholders consider these measures to be the protection of women’s sports all over the world.
In the eyes of supporters, the marker signals a victory for fair play, while critics argue it sacrifices inclusion and human rights.
Yet, the USOPC continues to insist on working with all parties toward ensuring safety and compliance.
