Messi has committed to a two-season deal at Parc des Princes with the option of an extra year and will reportedly earn €35 million (£30m/$41m) per annum in wages with the French giants. Barcelona sent shock across the football world when it was announced that they couldn’t afford to re-register the Copa America winner last week, and PSG moved ahead quickly to secure the Talisman.

Details about the deal

It is reportedly stated that Messi’s two-year contract with PSG gives him a $41 million annual salary, including bonuses. The agreement also has an option for a third year. That’s a big contract for any player, let alone a forward who has already turned 34. PSG believes that money will be well-spent if Messi can take the club to the promised land, a first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy.

What caused the Argentine’s departure?

Following Barcelona’s announcement of Messi from Camp Nou, his next move became a top-notch discussion, with Manchester City, Inter, and Bayern Munich linked with the Argentine and a possible switch to MLS.

A financial crisis forced the Blaugrana to delay an official announcement of a new contract for Messi, who agreed to remain on their books for another five years after becoming a free agent on June 30.

However, the renewal proposal eventually had to be withdrawn as Barca had already exceeded La Liga’s salary limit, leaving their top goalscorer with no choice but to confirm his exit in an emotional final press conference.

What impact will Messi make at PSG?

The French side has signed a man who will forever be engraved in Barcelona’s history book as the best player the club has ever had, with a record of 672 goals in 778 appearances; unlikely to be broken in the future. Messi helped the Blaugrana win 34 trophies in total, including four Champions Leagues and 10 La Liga titles, making his debut as a 17-year-old in 2004. The Argentine’s passion and hunger for silverware would be vital and valuable for PSG as they bid for trophies in domestic and European competitions in 2021-22.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be expected to; win Ligue 1 title, with Messi on the team; he completes a fearsome trio alongside ex-Barca team-mate Neymar and Kylian Mbappe; it looks like a smooth ride.

What is Lionel Messi’s dream?

The renowned forward said that his goal and dream is to win the Champions League again, and he thinks the PSG team can do it.

How did the fans react?

Lionel Messi was led out to the front of the Parc des Princes, where he met PSG’s loving and passionate supporters and their reactions were incredible.

The questions are over, and now Messi poses alongside Al-Khelaifi while holding PSG’s shirt with ‘Messi 30’ on the back as he finally ended the question of ‘where next.’
