Anger As Trigger-happy Officer Kills Woman In Anambra

• Residents have called on the police force for help, following the murder of a woman in Anambra State.

• The victim was said to have been shot by a trigger-happy security operative in the state.

Tension has erupted in Anambra State, following the accidental discharge of a trigger-happy security operative in the state.

According to reports, the security operative, who is a member of Agunechemba,  security outfit in the area shot, as he tried to diapers a traffick gridlock in the area.

This happened on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 along the ever-busy Ibeto Junction, in Anambra State.

The victim, identified as Chiamaka Okeke was allegedly shot, while the officer was trying to create a passage for their convoy to pass the gridlock.

Confirming the incident, an eyewitness said motorists were stuck in the gridlock, and suddenly the security operatives of Agunechemba arrived and tried to create a passage for themselves. In the process, one of its officers shot in the air.

“The operatives, in their attempts to clear the way for their patrol vehicles and their convoy, started firing gunshots; and in the process, a road user, simply identified as Chiamaka, got hit by stray bullets and she slumped immediately.“This led to panic in the area and people started scampering to safety and in the process, the Agunechemba operatives fled the scene,”

He added that the woman was subsequently rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead by doctors on duty.

Also confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, ijna statement released on Wednesday, April 16 said;

“The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Police Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, sues for calm and states that the Command is already in contact with the relevant security outfit to identify the suspect and ensure justice is served,” 

“This is following a report in the evening of yesterday, 15th April 2025 of the regrettable incident at Ibeto junction, Nnewi where a trigger-happy security operative shot a lady who was later identified as Chiamaka Okeke which resulted in her d3ath.

“Investigations are currently ongoing and further developments would be communicated, please.”
