Some angry residents have come out to protest following
President Muhammad Buharı’s visit to his home state, Katsina on January 26.

it was gathered that the protesters took their protest to Kofar Kaura, Kofar Kwaya, and Yahaya Madaki way of the state.

Reports held that residents of the state complained that the economic policy of the present regime was not working.

They also expressed anger over the naira redesign policy, fuel scarcity, inflation, and insecurity.

A resident of the area said:

“My name is Mustapha Muhammad Boss. What happened was after President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the underpass, some youths which we don’t know where they came from, begin to chant ‘Bamuyi’, stoning security operative and branded APC’ vehicles as well as setting tyres on fire.

“That is why as you can see, we decided to close our shops for safety. This act is improper and condemnable, because it is affecting those that have nothing to do either with the visit or the party.”

Also, it was reported that some of the protesters started throwing stones at the crowd shortly after President Buhari inaugurated some selected projects executed by the state government.

While burning tyres along Yahaya Madaki way–a few metres away from the newly inaugurated underpass project, they chanted “We don’t need you,” “We no go do,” “We are not supporting APC.” They were dispersed by security personnel who fired teargas.

Another eyewitness, Abdul Suleiman, told newsmen that the protesters were chanting ‘Bamuyi’ (a Hausa word meaning ‘we are not interested’) and started stoning some vehicles at the venue.

He said;

“Shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the underpass, some residents of this area came out and started throwing stones at some vehicles at the venue. Before we knew it, they started burning tyres on the road.”

It was also reported that some of the residents booed Buhari along the IBB way within the Katsina metropolitan area when the convoy of the president was heading to the newly constructed Revenue House for the inauguration.

However, the Police and other security operatives dispersed the protesters with teargas and normalcy returned to the areas.
