Joshua’s team travelled to Accra earlier this week to speak with local organisers and look at potential locations, with the 40,000-seat Accra Sports Stadium being a top choice.
Leading the visit were Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith and adviser Freddie Cunningham, who came to see if Ghana is truly ready to host a massive boxing event.
While Ghana looks like the favourite, Joshua’s team hasn’t ruled out other choices.
There’s talk of a big-money showdown with social media sensation Jake Paul, but many believe it wouldn’t offer much of a real test.
Other possible opponents include France’s Olympic gold medallist Tony Yoka and heavyweight contender Martin Bakole from DR Congo.
Yoka, who’s now signed with Queensberry Promotions, has already shown interest in fighting Joshua in late 2025 or 2026.
At 35, Joshua is determined to bring a huge boxing night to African soil.
The London 2012 Olympic champion is working his way back after being knocked out by Daniel Dubois last September and undergoing elbow surgery in May.
He’s aiming for a comeback in early 2026, still holding out hope for a mega-fight with Tyson Fury if the WBC titleholder decides to return.
Meanwhile, promoters need to lock in the date, opponent, and broadcast deals.
For now, Accra is still very much in the running.
