Following investigations, the driver has submitted a formal statement to authorities. Police sources disclosed that charges bordering on reckless driving may be filed after a review of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said:
“Anthony Joshua’s driver has been discharged from the hospital and is currently giving his statement to investigators.”
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the Sagamu interchange, where the damaged truck involved in the crash was taken, revealed that preliminary findings pointed to excessive speed and dangerous overtaking by the SUV.

Meanwhile, FRSC officials disclosed that the truck driver involved in the collision fled the scene immediately after the crash and has since been declared wanted.
Earlier findings by the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) indicated that a burst front tyre on the passenger side of the SUV caused the driver to lose control before crashing into a stationary truck.
TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi said: “There was overspeeding. The front tyre burst, leading to loss of control before the vehicle rammed into a stationary truck.”
The accident claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both close associates of Joshua. Matchroom Boxing confirmed their deaths in a statement, describing the loss as devastating.
