Antonio’s red card Against Southampton Was ‘stupid’- Moyes

David Moyes, Westham manager has suggested that Michail Antonio was “stupid” for getting sent off during stoppage time in today’s encounter with Southampton at St Mary’s.

Westham striker, Antonio had been so fantabulous right from the start of this season with four goals and three assists in just 3 games.

That qualifying the 31 year old as the Premier League’s leading goalscorer till this weekend.

However, today’s game was so tight for him that he scored no goal and eventually ended up being sent off the pitch.

His failure to net today now make his number of goals to level with that of Bruno Fernandez of Man Utd who scored a goal today against Newcastle.

Antonio received his first yellow card in the 71 minute for unsportsmanlike conduct and the second in the 95 minute for commits a rough foul on Moussa Djenepo.

With a Europa League campaign to contend with this term, Moyes had spoken in the build up to the game of needing to manage Antonio’s minutes having failed to recruit a direct understudy during the transfer window.

Antonio will not be feature in next weekend’s league clash against Man Utd and could affect planning for Thursday’s European opener away to Dinamo Zagreb as Moyes suggested.

That is to the insinuation that the striker will not be available at the time he will be needed most.
