Supreme Court to deliver verdict on Osun Governorship Election

There is anxiety in the camps of Governor Ademola Adeleke and Ex-governor Oyetola Gboyega as the Supreme Court gets set to deliver judgment on the Osun Governorship Election today, Tuesday May 9, 2023.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the apex court had announced on Monday on when the judgment will be delivered.

Senator Ademola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner of the July 16 poll with 403,371 votes, winning 17 local government areas.

Osun: Oyetola Reacts to Adeleke’s Appeal Court Victory

On the other hand, Oyetola, who was incumbent governor at the time, and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, polled 375,027 votes to win in 13 local government areas.

Oyetola was not satisfied with the outcome of the election and headed for the tribunal where he was declared winner of the Osun Governorship Election.

The tribunal sacked Adeleke on the grounds of over voting and declared Oyetola winner after announcing new poll results as 314, 921 for the incumbent, 290, 266 for Adeleke.

Adeleke headed for the Appeal Court which subsequently set aside the judgment delivered by the Justice Tetsea Kume-led tribunal.

The three-member panel of Justices held that the appeal Adeleke lodged to challenge his sack by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, was meritorious.

Aside from setting aside the judgement of the tribunal, the court, in its lead judgement delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal, awarded a N500, 000 cost against the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.

Oyetola is now praying for the Supreme Court to reverse the March 25 judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja and declare him winner of the Osun governorship election.
