The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has announced its withdrawal from the forthcoming local government election, citing procedural irregularities and a lack of transparency in the electoral process.
“We are not part of the decisions to conduct an election on the 5th of October. We went on air on the 19th of January, if I remember to tell the INEC Chairman and the Commission to convey the process of having that local government election at that time,” said Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee Chairman of the APC in Rivers State.

Okocha emphasized that the APC had initiated legal action to halt the election proceedings due to non-compliance with legal protocols. “The reason we went to court is not because we don’t have the number or strength. I can assure you, and you know for yourself, that we have men and women who can contest any election and win,” he said.
The APC’s decision to boycott the election has thrown the entire process into uncertainty, with only a few weeks left before the scheduled election date.
