Ahead of the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), slated for February 26, party stakeholders from the south-south have demanded the position of National Secretary.
The stakeholders are also of the view that former National Working Committee (NWC) members should not be re-elected as national officers of the party.
Already, the South-East APC members are already campaigning for the position of the APC National Secretary, including Mr. Jerry Ugokwe and Hon. Chidi Duru, both from Anambra State while the former National Organizing Secretary of APC, Senator Osita Izunaso, is said to have indicated an interest in the same position.

On behalf of the stakeholders, Hon. Abel Akpan of Cross River State said on Wednesday in Abuja that the region should be allowed to hold such a position for a ruling party, arguing that it would aid in the consolidation of the party in the zone.
“We south-south APC stakeholders are demanding that the position of National Secretary be zoned to us,” he said.
Our brothers from the southeast have previously held the position of National Secretary of a ruling party and continue to hold the same position in the PDP.
“Yes, we are aware that we held the position of National Chairman, but we were not permitted to complete our term in that position.”
We make an appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari and other party leaders might think it’s progressive to zone the National Secretary to the south-south.”
Those who have previously served should be let go, as was the case in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where no former NWC member was elected to the working committee.
