The leadership of the All Progressives Congress has reportedly zoned the party’s National Secretary position to the South-East, while the party’s chairmanship will go to the North-Central. The deputy national chairman (South) is expected to attend the South-South meeting.
A top APC official stated this while also stating that the party would be alternating certain positions.
He stated that positions held by northerners on the previous National Working Committee would be given to southerners and vice versa.

“Discussions are ongoing,” the chieftain stated. So far, we have agreed that the North-Central will serve as national chairman, and the South-South will serve as national deputy chairman and the national secretary will go to South-East.
“Also, the plan is for the South to take over all positions that the North held during the previous NWC.” Of course, anyone who wants to compete has the right to do so, but this is the plan for the time being. Other positions will be filled as they become available.”
The APC is also expected to form sub-committees to handle various aspects of the convention, such as publicity, budget, security, and logistics.
The members of the caretaker committee met in Abuja on Tuesday but did not complete their discussions, so they agreed to meet again on Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mai Mala Buni, the Governor of Yobe State and Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, announced that the APC national convention will be held in Yobe State.
Buni, who stated this on Tuesday during his keynote address at the Progressives Women Congress in Abuja, declined to reveal the location of the convention.
Buni urged women to run for public office in his message to delegates, claiming that the APC is the most welcoming to women in Nigeria.
“You continue to be the best mobilizers of support for any political party and its candidates,” he said. On election days, you have always stood in line to determine the fate of candidates. With this, we are confident of a resounding victory in the 2023 general elections.”
Let me assure you that the party will not forget this gesture by supporting women and youths in their political aspirations and dreams.”
“We hope to see more women running in the party’s upcoming national convention on February 26, 2022, as well as general elections.”
He urged women to educate their relatives and the larger society about the fact that elections are not a life or death matter.
“As we approach the convention and the general election, I’d like to remind you of your Progressive roles and the importance of supporting progressive-minded leaders running for various offices for the betterment of our country.”
“We must prioritize peaceful elections and service delivery over personal gain.” Let me assure you once more that APC will continue to support you, and generously,” Buni said.
