Arewa Youths Warns Ondo Governor About Alleged Harassment of Northerners

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) warned Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akerelodu on Friday to put an end to the Amotekun security outfit’s constant harassment of northerners in the state.

According to a statement signed by the Forum’s National President, Yerima Shettima, Amotekun corps personnel have picked up and harassed northern in the state on numerous occasions for no apparent reason.

According to the statement, the purpose of the SSS, the Army, Amotekun, the NSCDC, and other security personnel is to protect lives and property, not to harass residents.

It also stated that the state-owned Amotekun Corps should not be used arbitrarily against the few northerners in the state who are simply going about their legitimate business.

The statement informed the governor that, just as northerners are in the state for legitimate business, so are westerners spread across the country’s northern regions.

Shettima went on to say that if they are subjected to the same unnecessary mistreatment, hatred, and harassment, there will be no peace in the country.

It warned that if the Ondo State government allows such intimidation and harassment to continue without justification, it will imply that he does not want northerners in his state.
