Armed robbers have attacked two commercial banks in Ikere-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ikere local government area of Ekiti State.

According to reports, the masked armed robbers, numbering twenty, stormed the town around 5:15 pm on Wednesday.

They carried out simultaneous attacks at Wema Bank and Access Bank, both located at Odo Oja and Oke-osun.

An eyewitness revealed that the gun-wielding robbers initially targeted the Ikere command of the Amotekun Corps along Ise Road, where they reportedly shot some operatives before proceeding to attack the banks.

The violent incident, lasting approximately 45 minutes, tragically claimed three lives, while many others sustained bodily injuries.

Using dynamite, the armed robbers broke through the security door and also damaged several parked cars near the banks.

They made off with an unspecified huge sum of money.

Meanwhile, in a telephone conversation, the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Alagbado, expressed shock at the audacity of the robbery.

Alagbado lamented that despite the presence of military checkpoints and the Police Area Command in the town, the robbers operated for several minutes without hindrance.

He stressed the need for swift action, adding that those responsible for the dastardly act must be apprehended and prosecuted.
