Operatives of the Nigerian Army on Monday invaded Awo Mmamma, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, burning a hotel, cars, shops and houses.
The invasion by the army followed the killing of a soldier by gunmen following an attack in the afternoon.
The incident reportedly occured at Ishieke junction, leaving residents of the community in panic.

Many residents have reportedly fled the community over fears of being invaded by soldiers.
A source told newsmen that “some hoodlums attacked some soldiers at Ishieke junction in Awo Mmamma and killed one of them. They zoomed off towards Ihiala in Anambra State. Later soldiers invaded the area and caused havoc in the area by setting a hotel, cars, houses and stalls on fire.”
The Imo State Police Command was yet to respond to the incident as of press time.
