Asisat Oshoala, Nigeria’s six-time African Women’s Player of the Year, has retired from international football at 30.

In her Monday Facebook post, she thanked fans for their “unwavering support” and said stepping aside after WAFCON 2024/25 will “pave the way for emerging talents.”

Oshoala leaves as Africa’s most decorated female footballer, having won CAF Player of the Year in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023.
She rose from Lagos’s streets, used her speed, strength and clinical finishing to keep Nigeria at the top, and inspired a generation of young players.
Asisat Oshoala will continue to light up club football even though she will no longer be wearing the Super Falcons outfit.
She’s ready to start new roles – mentoring, coaching or even sports advocacy and she’ll keep pushing women’s football forward.
