ASUU Plans To ‘Fight’ FG Over Hardship

ASUU Plans To ‘Fight’ FG Over Hardship | Daily Report Nigeria

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disclosed plans to fight the Federal Government due to economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

Prof Nanmwa Voncir, the acting Zonal Coordinator of ASUU’s Bauchi Branch, made the declaration during a press briefing at the union’s secretariat in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

Voncir believed the current hardship in the country was birthed by the reforms implemented by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Since assuming office last year, Tinubu’s policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and currency controls, have greatly impacted citizens.

Despite the President’s appeals for patience, discontented citizens have taken to the streets to voice their dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s leadership style.

During the press conference, Voncir also pointed out the challenging conditions faced by staff in the nation’s tertiary institutions and the hardships endured by the general populace.

He said:

We will never run away from confronting the ruling class in this country as long as they will never do what is right.

“Even if it is just for the socio-economic trouble of this country, ASUU will stand up and fight government.

“It is not just for our conditions of service, if just for the economic situation of this country (and) the poor man suffering, ASUU will stand up and fight.”
