The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reaffirmed its earlier sanction on academic collaborations with the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, until five of its members “wrongfully” sacked by the university are recalled.

The union’s National Executive Council (NEC) resolved to continue supporting the sacked lecturers until they are reinstated. ASUU also ordered its branch at the university to furnish the National Secretariat with a comprehensive report on the issue.

ASUU National President, Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed disappointment with the Lagos State government’s refusal to release the White Paper on the visitation panel to LASU, more than two years after the exercise.

He called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reinstate the lecturers, who were “unjustly” dismissed in 2019.

The dismissed lecturers were ASUU officials, accused of unauthorized removal, retention, and dissemination or publication of official confidential documents. Despite an Appeal Committee clearing them of all offenses and recommending their reinstatement, the university’s governing council put their recall on hold.

ASUU also decried poor funding of universities, victimization of members, and refusal of government to address outstanding issues. The union gave a 21-day ultimatum to the government to address these issues, threatening to take appropriate decisions afterward.

In a related development, ASUU condemned the refusal of Federal and State governments to decisively address outstanding issues, such as poor funding of universities, termination of the ASUU 2009 agreement, and refusal to move salaries of members from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
