ASUU Sues FG Over CONUA, NAMDA

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, on Thursday, said it would meet the National Industrial Court (NIC) over the Federal Government’s registration of the two new varsity-based factional unions.

This was confirmed by the President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke.

“Falana is our lawyer. So, that is correct,” he said.

“ASUU is going to court. It is going to be the NIC, ASUU’s lawyer, Femi Falana,” also told newsmen.

Recall that the Federal Government on Tuesday registered two factional academic unions they are;
the Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics (CONUA), and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA).

The registration of the two factional unions was instigated by the deadlock talks between ASUU and the government.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Tuesday, explained that the new unions will function alongside ASUU, and will enjoy the rights and privileges accorded to other academic unions in the tertiary education system.
