The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government to meet its pending demands, threatening a fresh strike action if the issues are not addressed.

ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodoke in a statement on Wednesday, accused the government of not showing commitment to executing the agreements with the union, some of which date back to 2009.

ASUU is demanding the payment of withheld salaries due to the 2022 strike action, the conclusion of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement, and the release of unpaid salaries for staff on sabbatical, part-time, and adjunct appointments.

The union is also seeking funding for the revitalization of public universities and the payment of outstanding third-party deductions.

If the demands are not met within the 14-day ultimatum, ASUU has threatened to embark on a strike, which would cripple academic activities in the nation’s public universities.
