PDP leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and David Mark, held a closed-door meeting in Abuja to chart a new political direction ahead of 2027.

They accused the APC-led Federal Government of weaponising state power to weaken opposition and presiding over worsening economic and security conditions.

A communiqué issued after the meeting urged Nigerians and political allies to unite in a national coalition to restore democratic values and good governance.
A high-powered group of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark has urged Nigerians to unite in a broad coalition to dethrone the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The call came after a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, where the PDP stakeholders issued a communiqué warning that democracy in Nigeria is under threat from a failing APC-led administration.
The group lamented the PDP’s post-2023 election decline, citing internal divisions, constitutional violations, and the resignation of former national chairman Iyorchia Ayu as factors that have eroded the party’s stability and direction.

“We call on all Nigerians and PDP members to unite in a national coalition committed to rebuilding this country on the principles of democracy, national unity, security, and accountability,” the statement read.
The leaders accused the Tinubu administration of using state power to intimidate the opposition, leading to defections by elected officials “under pressure, threats, and political patronage.”

They condemned the rising insecurity, deteriorating economy, and what they described as a “collapse of public trust in governance.”
Those present at the meeting included Sule Lamido, Uche Secondus, Babangida Aliyu, Sam Egwu, Aminu Tambuwal, and Liyel Imoke.
They agreed that urgent reform is needed within the PDP and that opposition unity is essential for restoring credibility and effective leadership in the country.
