INEC has acknowledged the request but insists registration must follow constitutional procedures.
A powerful coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and ex-Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi has applied for the registration of a new political party—the All Democratic Alliance (ADA)—to challenge the current political order and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The move followed weeks of closed-door meetings and growing speculation that the opposition coalition would either revive a dormant platform or float a fresh party.
With an application dated June 19 and acknowledged by INEC on Thursday, the coalition has opted for a new political vehicle altogether.

A letter obtained by Daily Report Nigeria and signed by Chief Akin A. Rickets, Protem National Chairman, and Abdullahi Elayo, Protem National Secretary, confirmed the formation of All Democratic Alliance with the slogan “Justice for All”.
“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party,” the letter stated.
Although INEC acknowledged the submission, the commission cautioned in a prior warning that no political pressure will shortcut the rigorous constitutional process required for registration.
It stressed that party formation goes beyond declarations or alliances, insisting on adherence to the 1999 Constitution and Electoral Act.
The party’s symbol—a maize (corn)—is described as representing abundance, resilience, and sustenance. Its official documents, including the party manifesto and constitution, were submitted alongside the application.
According to insiders, ADA’s strategy is to consolidate opposition forces across regions and to tap into growing public dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration.

“We have attached our manifesto detailing our ideology and our constitution defining our structures and identity,” the coalition wrote.
Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi and Dr. Umar Ardo, a former aide to President Obasanjo and convener of the League of Northern Democrats, are among top names backing the coalition. Their involvement hints at a broader northern-southern alliance ahead of 2027.
