Auto Crash Kills 13 Wedding Guests in Rivers

13 persons who were on their way to a traditional marriage ceremony have lost their lives in a fatal auto accident in Akpoku- Udufor community, Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The victims were on their way to Imo State for a relatives conjugal ceremony when the accident happened.

A Costa Bus conveying the victims had collided with a heavy-duty truck at about 3:30 pm, causing the Costa bus to somersault several times.

The victims include the younger brother to the groom of the wedding they were attending and his wife.

Chibuike, a source in the area while confirming the incident disclosed that 11 of the victims died instantly while the other two passed away at the point of being rushed to the hospital.

He also felt concerned about the other victims who sustained grave injuries and feared that they may not survive it.

The Costa bus which loaded and took off from the community in the afternoon got involved in the unanticipated accident in less than half an hour after departure.

Also, an anonymous source in the local government authority, revealed that the LG authority was contacted when the incident occurred.

Mr. Obinna Anyanwu, the local government Chairman thereby, visited the scene of the incident and helped to convey the dead to the mortuary likewise, the injured to the hospital.

Nnamdi Omoni, PPRO of the state command said he has not been briefed of the development during press time.
