Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has dismissed reports suggesting he is defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the claims as baseless and misleading.

The defection rumours are believed to be linked to ongoing internal disagreements within the APC in Jigawa State, particularly tensions between Badaru and his successor, Governor Umar Namadi. Party insiders say the rift has fueled speculation, with some supporters alleging marginalisation in the affairs of the party and state government.

The internal friction has reportedly led to growing discontent among some APC members in the state, prompting rumours of possible defections to other political platforms.

However, Badaru moved swiftly to shut down the speculation. In a statement personally signed and released through his media aide, Mati Ali, on Tuesday, the former minister reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the APC.

“I categorically state that the report is entirely false, unfounded, and a product of political mischief,” Badaru said.

He stressed that he remains a loyal member of the party he helped to establish, adding that he has no intention of leaving the APC under any circumstance.

Badaru urged party members and the general public to disregard the reports, noting that his focus remains on strengthening the party and promoting unity within its ranks.
