Bandits Storm Zamfara Mosque, Kill Five Worshippers During Dawn Prayers

At least five worshippers were gunned down on Friday morning when armed bandits stormed a mosque in Yandoto village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, during early morning prayers.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, killing five people instantly and leaving several others with gunshot wounds. Some worshippers were also abducted and taken into the forest.

A resident described the assault as “barbaric and inhuman,” confirming that injured victims are receiving treatment in nearby facilities.

When contacted, Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said he was yet to receive an official briefing from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Tsafe.

The incident comes barely a week after gunmen abducted about 40 worshippers during dawn prayers in Gidan Turbe village, also in Tsafe LGA.

In a separate tragedy, over 100 illegal miners are feared dead following the collapse of a gold pit in Kadauri village, Maru LGA. Eight bodies have so far been recovered, with residents confirming the deceased were from Mekwanugga community.
