The disturbing case of bandits torturing an NYSC member has sparked nationwide outrage after a video surfaced showing the young graduate pleading for his life while his family struggles to meet an escalating ransom demand.

Abba, a graduate of Federal University Gusau, where he studied Plant Science and Biotechnology, was kidnapped on January 9, 2026, while travelling from Gusau in Zamfara State to Sokoto State.

Family sources revealed that the kidnappers initially demanded N50 million before reducing the figure to N10 million. Other accounts put the demand at N5 million. As relatives struggled to gather funds, the situation took a darker turn.

A deeply disturbing video later emerged showing the young corps member in visible distress, pleading desperately for help as he endured abuse in captivity.

“Please help me, for God’s sake, please help my life. I may soon die in this situation,” he cried in the footage.

He repeatedly made emotional religious appeals, asking for mercy, but there was no response from his captors.

News of the abducted NYSC member quickly spread across social media, triggering widespread concern and anger. What started as a private appeal by his family soon turned into a public fundraising effort.

Within hours, donations reportedly poured in from concerned Nigerians determined to help secure his release. So far, over N8.5 million has been raised.

However, in a troubling development, the kidnappers allegedly increased the ransom to N9.6 million after noticing the growing public support — leaving an additional N1.1 million still required.

The development has intensified fears about the worsening security situation and the growing boldness of criminal groups targeting vulnerable travellers.

The case adds to rising reports of bandit attacks in northern Nigeria, where kidnapping for ransom has become a persistent threat. Many families are often left to negotiate privately, with little protection or financial support.

As of the time of this report, authorities have not released an official update on rescue efforts.

For now, Musa Usman Abba remains in captivity, and his family continues to appeal for urgent help.
