President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the 25.735 km Ogbia-Nembe road, a crucial infrastructure project connecting 14 communities in Bayelsa State.

Findings revealed that the 14 benefitting Ogbia and Nembe local government area communities have been waiting for the completion of the road since its initiation in 1940.

The project was completed through a collaborative effort between the Federal Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), and the Bayelsa State Government. The latter contributed N3 billion to revive the project after it was stalled for six years.

Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh, commended the NDDC for its dedication to the project.

According to him, the project’s success would not have been possible without the collective effort of all stakeholders.

The Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, and the Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, Mr Ehiedu Ebie, also praised the project’s completion as a milestone for the Niger Delta region.

Ogbuku stressed the need for continued collaboration and partnership to achieve further development in the region.

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo emphasized the state government’s contribution to the project and called for continued partnership to complete other ongoing projects in the state.

Top-ranking senators, led by Senate Committee Chairman on Niger Delta, Senator Ekpenyong Asuquo, stressed the importance of continuity in administration and urged the NDDC and international oil companies to continue partnering for the region’s development.
