Bayelsa Guber: INEC Distributes Sensitive Materials to LGAs | Daily Report Nigeria

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive election materials to all eight local government areas in Bayelsa ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday.

Wilfred Ifogah, head of voter education and publicity at INEC’s State Headquarters, confirmed this during a press briefing in Yenagoa.

According to Ifogah, the materials were securely stored at the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) branch in Yenagoa and were distributed in the presence of representatives from all participating political parties.

A journalist who visited the INEC State Headquarters and the Yenagoa LGA office observed a significant presence of stern-looking armed security personnel conducting thorough screenings of individuals and vehicles in the vicinity.

In preparation for the election, detachments of police and other security agencies have been deployed to the state since Wednesday, while political parties are concluding their campaigns.

Ifogah said:
“The distribution took place earlier today in the presence of political parties and security agencies.

“Currently, the sensitive materials are at our local government offices from where they will be dispatched to the Registration Area Centres (RAC) on Friday.

“On Saturday, the materials will then be taken from the RACs to various polling units for setup.”

It was said that the robust security presence aims to ensure a peaceful and secure electoral process as a total of 1,056,862 registered voters go out to the polls on November 11.
