Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has backed President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term despite his father’s defection to the SDP earlier this year.

Bello, representing Kaduna North in the House of Reps, was present at the APC National Summit in Abuja where Tinubu was endorsed as the sole 2027 presidential candidate.
Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, a serving member of the House of Representatives, has publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, creating a visible political split with his father, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Bello was seen at the APC National Summit in Abuja, where Tinubu was confirmed as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
His show of support comes just months after his father defected from the ruling party, saying the APC “no longer reflects his values” and announcing plans to help the opposition defeat it.

The family fallout has stirred commentary online. Activist Reno Omokri took a jab at the situation, posting: “If El-Rufai can’t convince his son to leave Tinubu, how will he convince Nigerians?”
Meanwhile, Bashir El-Rufai, another son of the former governor, had previously slammed Tinubu and Kaduna’s Governor Uba Sani, warning that “nobody is too big to be elected out of office… forget all these intimidations flying up and down.”
