Benfica President, Son, Sports Agent Arrested in Portugal

The president of Portuguese football club Benfica, Luis Filipe Vieira has been arrested on Wednesday for tax fraud and money laundering.

Other charges for which he was arrested include qualified fraud, crime breach of trust, forgery.

Tiago Vieira, his son and Bruno Macedo, sports agent were also arrested.

They are all placed under investigation by the Portuguese Tax and Customs Authority.

The Portuguese police attests that they will be detained till they complete judicial interrogations.

“Around 45 search warrants were carried out, covering corporate premises, homes, lawyers’ offices and a banking institution” in the capital Lisbon, and the cities of Torres Vedras and Braga, in northern Portugal.” Say Police investigators.

“the arrests made took into account the evidence already collected, in order to safeguard the evidence, avoid the absence of defendants and prevent the consummation of suspicious actions in progress.”
