The Deputy Speaker made the appeal on Friday during the commissioning of infrastructure projects in Aba by the Abia State Government, according to a statement released on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu.
Describing the Lagos demolition as “worrisome and disheartening,” Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, said the Lagos State Government should provide avenues for affected property owners to regularize their documents instead of demolishing their homes and offices.
“Mr President, the destruction of houses and offices of our brothers in Lagos makes our hearts bleed. I appeal that you urge the Lagos State Governor to allow our people to rectify their documents rather than lose their buildings,” Kalu said.
He added, “It is painful that during these difficult times, people’s homes are being destroyed. I trust that Mr President, who cares for the Igbos and appointed one of them as his first Minister of Finance, will consider our plea.”
