Emberger pledges inclusive and independent leadership
The Benue State House of Assembly has elected Alfred Emberger as its new Speaker following the sudden resignation of Mr Aondona Dajoh.
The decision came during an emergency plenary session presided over by Deputy Speaker, Mrs Lami Danladi-Ogenyi, on Sunday.
The session first resolved to lift the suspension of four members sanctioned last Friday for attempting to unseat the former Speaker. The motion was raised by Majority Leader, Mr Saater Tiseer, and seconded by Mr Samuel Jiji of Logo Constituency.
Deputy Speaker Danladi-Ogenyi declared the suspension lifted, paving the way for the reinstated lawmakers to rejoin proceedings.

Shortly afterwards, Mr Douglas Akyaa of Makurdi South nominated Mr Emberger for the Speakership, seconded by Mr Abu Umoru of Apa Constituency. With no rival nominations, Emberger was sworn in by the Clerk, Mr John Hwande.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Emberger commended his predecessor’s service and promised that his tenure would prioritise inclusiveness, fairness, and respect for differing views.
He added that the Assembly would work with the executive and judiciary while maintaining legislative independence.
