The Director of Solid Minerals in the state, Mr. Anselm Nege, revealed this in an exclusive interview with The Guardian, stating that the government is monitoring ongoing mining activities to ensure proper regulation and prevent illegal operations.

“There have been confirmed reports of gold deposits in Kwande Local Government Area and aluminium deposits along the riverine areas of the state,” Nege said. “Mining activities in these areas are ongoing, but many remain unorganised and, in some cases, illegal. He described the discoveries as “positive indicators” of Benue’s mineral potential, capable of positioning the state as a key player in Nigeria’s solid minerals industry.

Also speaking, the Chief Risk Officer of the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), Mr. Andrew Simon Mbaiorga, said the discoveries could evolve into sustainable ventures if developed strategically.

“If this is done properly and with the right investors on the ground, this can become a strong, sustainable initiative leading to formal commercial rights and recognition,” he explained.

Mbaiorga added that the state government has set up a regulatory board to coordinate mining operations, especially among indigenous miners, to attract credible investors and ensure responsible resource exploitation.

“Our goal is to encourage investors to partner with us in establishing industries that will generate revenue, create jobs, and improve livelihoods,” he said.

He further advised the government to maintain strict oversight and align mining activities with global best practices to ensure both environmental protection and economic growth.
